We’re supporting Siemens with their Healthy@Siemens initiative. Here’s what James Brown, Siemens Health Management Lead, has to say about how we’ve helped: –
Siemens Plc launched an internal Wellbeing Programme (Healthy @ Siemens) from October 2015. One of the core elements of this programme was the appointment and training of ‘Wellbeing Champions’ who would be based in each of our Business Units and Sites in a variety of roles.
These Wellbeing Champions were intended to have the following responsibilities:
1) Plan, implement and evaluate local wellbeing events and programmes;
2) Make links with local community health resources;
3) Promote health and wellbeing;
4) Be a source of health information;
5) Signpost to health support available through Siemens or other organisations;
6) Be a route for communication between employees and management;
7) Be an inspiration and motivator for others;
8) Notify the Health Management Community about any best practice in their Business.
Following discussions with key stakeholders within Siemens, Rightway Employee Wellbeing Solutions developed a 2-day Wellbeing Champions Training Course covering the following content:
Day One: What is wellbeing?; Overview of Healthy @ Siemens; Overview of Mental Health; Overview of Physical Activity; Overview of Nutrition; Overview of Sleep; Overview of Social Contact; Overview of Substance Abuse.
Day Two: Health and Wellbeing Resources; Health Behaviour; Helping Individuals to Change; What is a Wellbeing Champion?; Confidentiality and Data Protection; Needs Analysis; Risk Assessment; Evaluation; Communication Skills.
I was pleasantly surprised with the interest and engagement of employees with the Wellbeing Champions scheme. To date we have appointed 241 Wellbeing Champions of which 171 have completed the training course, with a further 34 scheduled to attend a course before Christmas. Since their training we have been running quarterly Live-Meetings for the Wellbeing Champions with updates on our Healthy @ Siemens Programme and external speakers (including Rightway who presented on wellbeing ideas that have worked in other companies).
To support the Wellbeing Champions, Rightway have also run one day management training courses on wellbeing in the workplace within our Healthcare Business and have run other wellbeing workshops in a selection of Siemens departments.
We are currently discussing next steps for our Wellbeing Champions including the possibility of Mental Health First Aider training, further wellbeing training, and face-to-face networking events. Rightway have been involved in developing these concepts and we intend to retain their invaluable support at Siemens over the coming years.
Health Management Lead
To date, our Wellbeing Champions have been actively involved in promoting central elements of the Healthy @ Siemens Programme, as well as arranging onsite Health Challenges (e.g. Hydration Challenge In Durham), Seminars (e.g. Breast Cancer Awareness in Frimley), Employee Wellbeing Days (Manchester), and successfully recommending the introduction of garden/picnic areas (Manchester and Poole) and redecoration of offices (Poole).
Feedback on the Wellbeing Champions training courses developed by Rightway was consistently excellent, with 98% of attendees rating the trainer as Very Good or Excellent, all attendees rating the course as enjoyable and stating that they would recommend it to others, and 63% stating that it would definitely lead to them improving their health in the future. Constructive feedback on areas for improvement was taken into account in later sessions.
